Following on from a season that produced eleven fillies and five colts Arden Lodge mares have this year produced more colts than fillies. The team at Arden Lodge has seven colts and four fillies to wean, handle and give the best start in life possible. Very early on the foals learn what eating is all about .....and about trust.
Tricky Woman's Captaintreacherous colt is a fast learner.
* Champion race mare Venus Serena (Mach Three/ Inspiring Dash) has a dark bay Bettor's Delight filly who was born on the 12th of December 2020. The Stivens have already decided that she will be retained and raced by the whole family. Her half brothers Laver (who ran a record breaking time of 1.51.9 for the mile in the Nelson Pine Industries Classic in January -as seen herehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIYTBB6hENs) and Arden's Ace are just starting to get back to racing after spells, with Ace running a nice fourth in his first start back and following up with a good run in the Group 2 Vero 3YO Flying Stakes a week later. Her half sister Melody Arden has been broken in by Grant Payne at Elite Racing and is currently spelling.
* Southwind Arden (Bettor's Delight/Winter Rose) has a Captaintreacherous filly, born 6th November 2020. Her three quarter brother South Coast Arden has performed well at recent workouts so should be back at the races soon.

*Arden Lodge has two foals by the young stallion Fear The Dragon who stands at Macca Lodge. Both are lovely types - a dark bay filly from Ardenart (Artsplace/Arden's Dream) born 13th November 2020 and a colt from Arden's Rose (Somebeachsomewhere/Garden Rose who is an Artsplace mare out of Winter Rose) born 22nd December 2020. Arden Rose's first foal Arden's Horizon - a colt by Bettor's Delight- had his first win on Friday 26th March for Ray Green and Zachary Butcher. In his first start he had the bad luck of getting a punctured sulky tyre but there was no bad luck in his next start and he won well. * The son of the 2015 Broodmare Excellence Award winner Winter Rose (In The Pocket/Bella Chip) is by Downbytheseaside. He was born 19 November 2020. Winter Rose has left a number of top class race horses - Bettor Strike, Southwind Arden, Rocknroll Arden and Arden's Choice. His three year old brother Spirit of Arden had his first win on 28th March 2021 at the Waimate Trotting Club meeting at Oamaru for trainer Dean Taylor and driver Robbie Close as seen here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPqR-_sHji8
His two year old sister Arden Ubeaut is being trained at Hayden Cullen Racing Stables.
* Tricky Woman (In The Pocket/Super Smooth) has a Captaintreacherous colt born 1st January 2021. Tricky Woman is a half sister to 'Scuse Me and has left Bettor Trix (winner of over $250k) and Bettor to Be Tricky (winner of over $100k). The colt's 2YO half brother by Bettor's Delight, Arden's Illusion, qualified on 13 March 2021 for trainer Ray Green.
* Arden's Darlin (Bettor's Delight/Achieve A Dream) has a colt by Always B Miki born 11 December 2020. The 2008 New Zealand 2 YO Filly of the Year has left winners Celestial Arden, now racing in the US, and Arden Voyager, now racing in Australia. Darlin's Captaintreacherous colt Venturesome Arden sold at this year's yearling sale and her two year old filly Darlin's Arden is to be raced by John and Judy Stiven, and Jeff and Dianne Rankin. * L'oiseau de Nuit (Christian Cullen/ Corbie) has a Sweet Lou colt born 22 November 2020. Lois is from the family of Broodmare Excellence Award winner Blackwatch.
* Lazarus has not produced many foals in New Zealand but Real Wings (Badlands Hanover/Tuapeka Wings (from the Broodmare Excellence winner Maureen's Dream) has a colt born 27 November 2020. He has been weaned and has such a lovely temperament that he is a pleasure to work with. His four year old half brother Arden's Reality by Somebeachsomewhere won his fourth race recently.

Three year old half brother Arden Velocity by Bettor's Delight qualified in November and his two year old half brother Arden Believer by Somebeachsomewhere qualified in December and has recently run well at a workout, aiming to be racing soon.
* Rocknroll Arden (Rocknroll Hanover/ Winter Rose) did not foal until 2 January 2021 -a Captaintreacherous colt. His half sister Arden's Delight won on debut at Addington as a two year old and should be resuming racing soon after a spell.

* Surfin Sunsation (Sundon/Minuetto) has a Father Patrick filly born 19 October 2020. She has been weaned. Half sister Celtic Arden was the highest priced What the Hill filly sold at this year's Christchurch yearling sale.
With three foals weaned there are eight more to be weaned in the coming weeks.
