Good Strike Rate For Arden-Breds This Week

There were nine Arden Lodge-bred runners on tracks around New Zealand and Australia in the past week. With three winners, three runners up, two sixth places and a "couldn't get a gap in the run home," Arden Lodge is happy with the results. Here are the details and videos for the top finishers which include two winners who are both sons of Bettor's Delight mare Southwind Arden.

First up for the week was a win for Platinum Stride (Captaintreacherous/ Southwind Arden) in the Woodlands Stud 3 YO Mobile Pace at Tabcorp Park Melton on Tuesday 18th May. His win was by a very small margin for trainers Antony Butt and SL Smith and his owners E and M Stride, but the rest of the field were well spread out behind the front runners. Platinum Stride was purchased from the NZB Standardbred National Yearling Sale in 2019 and his name was changed from Captain Arden.

On Friday 21st May the first of the night's Arden runners at Addington was Arden's Ace (Art Major/Venus Serena). He finished strongly to claim second spot in the Garrard's Sires' Stakes Sophomore Classic Mobile Pace (Listed) for trainer Regan Todd and driver John Morrison. Arden's Ace was purchased at the 2019 NZB Standardbred Yearling Sales. His owners are Mrs GJ Kennard, PI Kennard, Mrs MC Creighton, PJ Creighton, GR Douglas, KJ Riseley

On debut at Alexandra Park Arden Velocity (Bettor's Delight/ Real Wings) showed that it won't be long before he wins a race for his owners Clearview Racing No 3 Syndicate and NR Tilsley. He ran a nice second to finish only half a neck behind the winner for Barry Purdon and Scott Phelan in the Metalcraft Roofing Mobile Pace with Josh Dickie taking the reins. The gelding was purchased at the 2019 NZB Standardbred Yearling Sales.

South Coast Arden was a strong favourite to win the Elmwood Trading Co Winter Cup at Addington the same night and he did not disappoint - winning comfortably for trainer Brent Mangos and driver Natalie Rasmussen. His dam Southwind Arden won the same race in 2012 for breeder and owner Noreen Stiven. Noreen had a lot of enjoyment following Southwind's career - her nine wins, 13 seconds and 12 thirds.

South Coast Arden's owners Mrs A Gibbs, Mrs GJ Kennard, Mrs K Breckon, Mrs KJ Woodham, PI Kennard, K Breckon, JA Gibbs MNZM, and GA Woodham purchased the son of Somebeachsomewhere at the 2018 National Yearling Sale. South Coast Arden now sits third on the IRTJewels Leader Board for the Civtec 4 YO Emerald. The Cup was win number eight for the talented gelding and it took his earnings to over $116k.

On Saturday 22nd May Arden Voyager (Somebeachsomewhere/ Arden's Darlin) won strongly at Tabcorp Park Melton in the DNR Logistics Pace for Andy and Kate Gath and owner NR (Norm) Jenkin. He was purchased at the National Yearling Sale in 2017 and was raced in New Zealand before being sold to Australia.

Starting from the outside of the gate at number 11 Arden Messi (Bettor's Delight/ Tosca Hanover) finished second in the TAB Pace at Tabcorp Park Menangle for trainer Kevin Pizzuto, driver Joshua Gallagher and owners MJ Hanover and GL Banks. After two wins in his last two starts he was unfortunately unable to make it three from three.
